On this page we like to include updates on Bichons who have appeared on our Dogs in ResQ page

looking for their forever homes.  It's so nice to see how well they are doing.

UPDATE ON MARCH (NOW DAISY)

Daisy will now spend many years being suitably pampered (as she should be) mostly on my bed (her favourite place).

Daisy, Steph, Matt, Alex, Katie and Mum!!

UPDATE ON CHERUB (NOW PIXIE)

Cherub (now Pixie) has settled in really well after a few teething problems. She is such a bright little girl and such fun, here she is with her 4 other MT ex breeding friends, Hanky Panky (now Kitty) Yorkie, and my Cav's Sophie (Samantha) Gemma (Brecon) and Cherry.  Wendy West

UPDATE ON MOUSE

My husband David and I adopted  Mouse on the 9th February this year and brought her home to live with Oscar, our 5 year old cross breed, another rescue and 4 cats, more rescues!!! We changed her name to Maisie Mouse but she has become Maisie Lion over the last few weeks mainly due to the fact that since she has arrived she has had two major operations to remove all of her dreadful tumours – the second one was yesterday. I am so pleased to tell you that her ops have gone extremely well and we don’t see any foreseeable problems. She copes so well with it all she is amazing.  When we brought her home yesterday she was so happy and kept wagging her tail although she was so tired and hungry bless her.

She is such a happy little girl and has settled so well. We have a large garden and although when she first came she was very wary of walking around, suddenly after about 4 days she trotted off on her own up the garden.  That moment will stay with me forever, it was if a new world had opened up for her. She gets on so well with all the other animals, including our cats who accepted her immediately which I must admit didn’t think would happen straight away .Her big brother Oscar has managed to teach her to bark (she didn’t seem able to when she first came) especially at the postman!!! I have sent a couple of pictures of Maisie, she has her bone on one of them which she seems to love but Oscar has to start it off for her first, we are hoping that eventually her coat will grow back completely, which we are sure it will now she is so settled and content.

We are so happy that we made this choice to home one of these little dogs she is safe with us.

Regards Dawn Kershaw

UPDATE ON STEEVIE

I would like to tell you how well Stevie is doing. He was born with no eyes. He was being fostered in Wrexham by Sarah. He’s an angel. He has joined our family and has got a new best friend, Mitzy. He has improved so much since we first got him and it has only been 8 weeks. Stevie walks lovely on his lead and even better off it. He loves to run free through the field and he looks just like any other dog. As you can see in the picture, he always has a giant smile on his face. He has met loads of other dogs and isn’t troubled by any of them, but he is still very wary of people he doesn’t know. Stevie loves his toys, as he is very playful. He takes everything in his stride. Stevie’s toilet training is going very well and only has the occasional accident as he still hasn’t properly figured out how to tell us he wants to go out, but we think this will come in time.  We would hope that what we have said would encourage others to consider adopting a blind or disabled dog as they still have so much love and personality to give.

UPDATE ON BLANCH (NOW DAISY)

Just a little note to let you know how Daisy (formally Blanch) is getting on. We adopted her in August 2009. She has turned into a very loving little girl although still a bit nervous, she is getting better every week. She loves going for walks and going in the car. She has come such a long way. We all love her dearly, she has fitted in great within our family. Daisy is the one in the middle.

UPDATE ON PIPPIN

It's been 3 months now since we adopted this little man Pippin.  Despite having a fused back leg he is normal in every other way.  He is very intelligent, cheeky and handsome. He loves is food, walks, toys and tormenting our other Bichon Molly.  I would like people to know if they are thinking of adopting a dog with a fused leg please go ahead as he knows no boundaries.  He is as quick as lightning and jumps like a kangaroo, his leg does not stop him at all. If anybody wishes to talk to us about a dog with this disability please ask Many Tears for my details and we would gladly talk to your about it. Will keep you posted on this little Bichon.

UPDATE ON SHANTI (NOW CHLOE)

Shanti now Chloe. Chloe came to stay at the end of May 09. She was being fostered by Debs in Newport and when I read her write up I knew this was the one. Id been aware of your good works since my neighbour adopted a whippet from you about eighteen months earlier. Chloe and Rosie (my JR X rescue) immediately became the very best of friends, always together. Most days we're up on Caradon Hill or Minions on Bodmin Moor, sometimes we go to the seaside at Looe. This little dog had very little stamina when she first came and Rosie could walk for England, so I had to continually carry Chloe so that we could get out and about, now she bounces along taking everything in her stride no bother at all. Chloe has put on weight, her coat is beautiful, she is everyone's friend and is a joy to own. She has made our little family complete.

Maureen Rosie and Chloe.

UPDATE ON FROBERSHAM (NOW SAM)

I had a wonderful email the other day from Sam to let me know how he's getting on.  Here is his update....

Hello!

My name is Sam (although I'm on your site as Frobersham but it was a bit of a mouthful).

I came to live here on 14th August...... here is Burton on Trent, by the way........ fields, parks, woodlands, you name it I've explored it, along with my brother Nik.

Nik has been here a bit longer than me, he came via the special needs bit of the Bichon Rescue site in January 2008, and until June 2009 enjoyed the company of an elderly but very bouncy chap called Toby. When Toby left, aged 16, for those unending fields around heaven's gates in June, Nik was lonely and out of all the Bichons around, mum and dad chose me, so here I am.

I'm really enjoying myself with lots of walks and attention. I've been camping, to the beach, met lots of new people and mum says like Nik I have a fan club. Mum and Dad say it's like I've always been here. It may take a while for me to graduate from the extending lead to full freedom like Nik as I have a tendency to charge off, but Mum says there's hope as Toby was 14 before he got to that point. In the meantime she runs quite well for a human, so I'm not complaining.

I'm going to try to attach a photo to this email so everyone can see my BIG SMILE. Thank you so much for helping Many Tears and my foster mum in Swindon finding me such a lovely place to live.

Wag, lick Sam xxx

Sam (Frobersham) at Many Tears.....and with his brother Nik (Sam is on the left)

Not only was it fantastic it was hearing how well Sam is doing but he also told me in another email that his new Mum found him via our website!  It was so good to hear that our Dogs in ResQ page is working and we really are finding these babies new homes.

UPDATE ON TIKI

Many of you will remember little Tiki who needed a heart operation in April last year.  Well a year on and she's doing great.  Here is her update....

Tiki here reporting in.  It's been 12 months since I made that long journey to my new home.  How time flies when you are having fun and I certainly am. Just had my check up with the vet and I passed with flying colours but like a lot of us ladies have to lose a little weight. I now have another Bichon playmate. Gambit, now called Lily, came to join us at the end of January - another Many Tears baby. She has had a bad hip and leg but you would never know as she keeps me on my toes. I have never looked back since joining this mad house and can never thank Sylvia and her team for giving me that chance.

Lots of love

Tiki

UPDATE ON FRED & RIKA (NOW CALLED FRED & WILMA)

Fred and Rika were two Bichons we featured on our DogsinResQ page who had been turned out and left to die.  They ran around a quarry for weeks before they were finally caught.  Their new owners gave Many Tears an update and we thought you would like to see how they are getting on.

Hi

Thought you might like to see Fred and Wilma enjoying a stroll at the beach with the Isle of Wight in the background.  They are settling in extremely well. Both are starting to go in the garden for their jobs. Fred is a real character and a happy little chap who protects Wilma if he thinks she is in danger. Wilma is different already. She is coming to me for a rub on the belly after much coaxing and eating very well. As you can see they are quite relaxed and calming down nicely. We have called her Wilma after the Flintstones as they were found in a quarry.

UPDATE ON SNOWFLAKE

Snowflake before

Snowflake's new owners have kindly contacted us to let us know how Snowflake, who now has a new name Maggie, is doing.  She has settled in well with them and has a new playmate who she loves running around the park with.  They say they feel blessed to have her, that she's a dream dog and they feel very lucky - I'm sure Maggie is feeling lucky too!  Maggie was an ex breeding bitch and was rehomed via ProDogs Direct.

Now called Maggie.  Doesn't she look great!

OBI & MALLY

Obi and Mally both appeared on our Dogs in ResQ page.  Now renamed Tobi (Obi) and Louie (Mally) their Mum, Janet, was kind enough to send us an update so we know how they are getting along....

Tobi is wonderful and a wee star a changed boy from the wee man who arrived here in June 2008.  He did not know about treats, walks, cuddles etc, but we have made up for that and he is a happy real wee man now and perfected the Bichon Blitz to absolute perfection.  Sadly at the moment he has a problem with what we are hoping is a fixable trapped nerve and he is seeing a specialist this week.  All going well he will be the mad wee boy again that I love to bits and bits.  Whatever the problem is I will do everything possible for this special wee man who has well and truly fixed himself permanently in my heart and home.

Louie has been with us for nearly three weeks now and is Tobi's adopted wee brother.  We have affectionately nicknamed him Asbo as, what leg problem? who me, sorry you must have the wrong guy.  He goes at 100mph and terrorises our two cats who have moved home to one of the upstairs bedrooms although he has now found he can get upstairs so Jade and Lucy look out!  He is so funny and spends hours playing with Tobi.  He has settled in so well you would think he had been with us for ever and even sleeps on the bed with Tobi and me all night with no accidents.  When he wants out and the back door is closed he will run to the back door and if you do not realise that he wants out immediately he will run back and tell us.  He is great.  As far as his leggy problems he too will see a specialist on Monday 17 November 2008.  However even if they say there is nothing that can be done, this boy is in no way handicapped, he speeds along on all four legs even if the back two are at a strange angle - he does not care it is normal for him.

Tobi had a series of tests at the vets and, thankfully, they all came back negative.  He will be monitored by the vets over the coming months but hopefully whatever it was has sorted itself out and there won't be any repercussions.

Jayne from Poole Puppy Pound rescued Muffin in early February 2007 when he was about 6 weeks old. He had a badly deformed front left leg and he was so weak on the other legs that he could not stand at all. He also had a bad ear infection and was a very depressed little puppy. He was taken to a foster home where he was given gentle exercise on his 3 good legs to strengthen them so that he would be able to walk after he had his deformed leg removed. Friends of Bichon Frisé Rescue emailed and reported the story to members who generously contributed to the cost of his operation.  With tender loving care from his foster mum he has transformed from a very frightened, depressed little puppy to a happy playful pup. He recovered quickly from his surgery and is very happy in his new home.

Wee Willie Winkie from a puppy farm in Wales, having being thrown out as a reject because he had a little problem with his winkie.  He was just 6/7 weeks old.  Jayne brought him back to Dorset and one of her foster homes took him in.  He was nurtured, loved and fed well.  When he was strong enough he had the necessary operation to fix the problem.

As soon as Friends of Bichon Frisé Rescue heard about his plight, we rang the vet carrying out the operation paid for it.  It was the generosity of our members that helped this little Bichon on his way to a long and happy life.

Snowy was again rescued by Poole Puppy Pound in 2004 found as a stray on the streets in Wales; a sad filthy dejected Bichon.  He is now a much loved handsome boy living on the Isle of Wight with one of our members.  Isn’t it wonderful what a personal ‘lap’ and much love can do?
