Our Objective
The objective of Friends of Bichon Frisé Rescue is to be able to have sufficient funds to enable us to pay for whole operations for Bichons in rescue. Our donations page shows some of the dogs we have helped by making a contribution but we want to be able to do more. Our aim is to have funds ready so that there is no delay in a Bichon receiving treatment - no fundraising would be required and the dog will, therefore, be treated quickly and ready to find their forever home sooner. We can only do this because people generously give us donations, buy our merchandise and/or subscribe to our magazine and we can't thank them enough. We can make a difference and every penny really does help.
Jan Jacobs - Isle of Wight
Jan is one of the co-founders of Friends of Bichon Frisé Rescue Magazine. The magazine first began in 1997 and is issued worldwide.
She had her first Bichon in 1984 and continued with her passion for Bichons over the years. Learning of the sorry situations Bichons get into led her to realise she perhaps, just perhaps, could help with Bichon Frisé Rescue and simultaneously somehow raise funds to support Bichons. This is where the magazine, started with her lovely friend Diane, was born.
Please contact Jan with any issues or queries relating to the Friends of Bichon Frisé Rescue Magazine or if you have any information you think might be useful to our members. Her email address is JanDogsIOW@aol.com
Clair Renfrew - North East England
Clair joined Friends in 2006 to help edit and provide articles/competitions for the magazine. She has since recently taken on the role of Webmaster and Treasurer.
Clair acquired first her Bichon, Lucy, in 1988 following lots of begging and pleading to her parents. She began showing Lucy as a hobby and Lucy was later joined by her daughters April and Becky. She enjoyed handling and was awarded Junior Handler of the Year at the Mid-Eastern Counties Bichon Frisé Club show in 1989. She then started taking other breeds into the ring on behalf of their owners; Briards, Chow Chows, Polish Lowland Sheepdogs, Shelties, to name but a few. A design fault with her right tibia requiring a major operation put an end to her showing career.
Having lost all her Bichons to illness, and despite loving the breed very much, she couldn't bring herself to be owned by another one straight away. She now lives with a rescued Labrador Cross and a Tibetan Terrier but her home still displays a growing collection of all things Bichon.
If you have any news, stories or gossip from the North East that you would like to pass on to other Bichon lovers, then please email Clair at fbfrmag@yahoo.co.uk
Diane Story
Diane had a successful show career with her own Bichons and occasionally bred them aswell. She had a single minded vision for Bichons and wanted them ALL to have a good quality of life.
After she relinquished control of Bichon Frisé Rescue, Diane co-founded the magazine with Jan. Diane worked tirelessly for Bichon Rescue and, along with Jan, has raised thousands of pounds to help with medical expenses for those Bichons in need. Diane felt very strongly that a Bichon should look like a Bichon and not a poodle. She always encouraged those who sent in photographs for our Calendar to pick pictures that represented the Bichon at its best.
